A Foodie’s Guide to Broadbeach
A little further south from the concrete jungle of Surfers Paradise is Broadbeach. Slightly more refined and polished, here you’ll find fewer tourists and plenty of world-class restaurants and bars to choose from, making it a must for every foodie venturing to the Gold Coast.
For all the other must-try foodie spots at the Gold Coast beyond Broadbeach:
MISS MONEYPENNY’s
Sister to the multi-award-winning Miss Moneypenny’s Noosa (which is still on my list of places to visit), Miss Moneypenny’s Broadbeach offers globally inspired modern Mediterranean cuisine, alongside a diverse range of cocktails, served in a massive, beautiful, architecturally designed venue. When we visited we all enjoyed the Suckling Pig Spring Rolls, to start, and the Prawn Linguine - which I forgot to take any photographs of! Plus, upon receiving a glowing recommendation from a fellow foodie who raved about the Pina Colada at Miss Moneypenny’s, I ordered it, and was not disappointed - presentation and taste were perfection! Notably, Miss Moneypenny’s offers a range of weekly specials worth checking out as well as cocktail classes.

Come for their to die for selection of contemporary pan-Asian shared plates and stay for their killer range of cocktails. Mamasan Kitchen & Bar, located in a trendy part of Broadbeach among a cluster of other eateries and bars, very much focuses on a share food philosophy, which is great because it provides a worthy excuse to try one of everything, and trust me, after reading the menu you'll want to! The half-shell scallops and spanner crab ravioli dumplings both come highly recommended.

Gemelli italian
Coming from a family of Italian heritage, brought up to appreciate good food and most importantly, how to cook it, Gemelli Italian is run by two passionate Italian twins - Gemelli simply translates from Italian to twins. Using nearly all imported products from Italy, the menu at Gemelli Italian has been created to reflect the food the twins themselves love to eat at home. All the pasta at Gemelli’s is freshly made in-house daily with flour and free-range eggs and their pizza is woodfired and cooked in a traditional way. Plus, the menu makes the best of Australian meats and QLD seafood. Beyond Gemelli Italian at Broadbeach, there is a Gemelli’s at Nobby Beach as well as 'Roys by Gemelli in Sorrento.

MAGGIE CHOO
Arguably the most grammable spot on the Gold Coast, opening in mid-September 2020, Maggie Choo is a brand new Asian-fusion restaurant in Broadbeach by The Gennari Group, the owners of nearby Broadbeach institutions The Loose Moose, Roosevelt Lounge, and Koi (located directly adjacent to Maggie Choo). With its eye-catching ceiling, covered in neon-lit pink cherry blossoms (and Japanese-style umbrellas at the back) adorned with bright hanging lanterns, Maggie Choo is tough to miss. Like its interior, Maggie Choo’s food and drink offering is inspired by the street food and hawker markets of Southeast Asia, with an array of small quick bites, larger share-style plates and curries on offer, as well as a drinks, list inclusive of a range of creatively-named cocktails.

KOI dining
From its prime corner location on the buzzing foodie strip that is Surf Parade in Broadbeach, Koi Dining offers casual fine dining in a sprawling alfresco setting, that has been recently (August 2020) and extensively refurbished. Following a six-week, million-dollar renovation, everything from Koi’s floorplan to its menu has been revamped. Koi’s now offers much more seating - plush leather club chairs, high bar tables and sleek banquet seating - and a stunning open kitchen, complete with waterfall marble benches. As well as its physical footprint, Koi’s food and drinks menu has also expanded, with a crowd-pleasing menu that is broken up into antipasto, small plates, sharing dishes and their classic wood-fired pizza - the restaurant’s signature sand crab lasagne topped with an abalone cream sauce and tempura soft-shell crab is a must!
